Information on Elder Law

Elder law focuses on the legal needs of the elderly. Their needs generally include retirement planning, life insurance, medical costs, and estate planning. Generally, attorneys who specialize in elder law usually have various expertise in such matters as:

When To Hire an Elder Law Attorney

Seek an elder law attorney's services before illness or incapacity becomes an issue. You can use help drafting legal documents detailing exactly how certain situations should be handled if you are not able to make decisions for yourself. That means you'll be in control of the care and treatment you receive regardless of your health issues later. If you are the victim of elder abuse, you should contact an elder law attorney immediately.

If you are the child of an elder who needs help, please contact us. We will go over the issues and situation, and discuss how we can help both of you.

Elder Law at Doug Koenig Law

Doug Koenig Law has experience in several areas of Elder Law, but not all. Our expertise includes Medicare and Social Security issues, powers of attorney and other issues with financial matters, health care planning, and wills and trusts. We can refer you to others with different expertise areas. We represent the elder generally, and not the family members. It is very important to us to distinguish who the client is, and to act accordingly.

Prepare for your first meeting with us by making a list of any questions you may have; and bring any documents related to the matters that concern you. This will allow us to provide focused information about your issues, and help you determine if we are right for you. If you need us to visit you at your home or residence, or even the hospital, we can make these arrangements.

Fees vary widely, of course, because every situation is different, and each person needs particularized care. We do offer an initial Elder Consultation Package which goes over the general public benefits available, discusses options with the client and family, and allows you all to ask as many questions as necessary. Check that package out here.
